Mar-Train Heavy Haulage Ltd is a family run business, established in 1978 to provide a local plant haulage service. Based outside Lisburn in Co. Down, the company has expanded rapidly since 1993, to meet the requirements of a niche found in the market. Since then, the company has specialised in heavy haulage and the transport of wind farm components throughout Ireland, UK and Europe.

The fleet now consists of over 20 units and over 60 trailers. The young fleet of tractor units are mainly Volvo and quite often bespoke due to the demanding weights these vehicles carry.

Mar-Train Heavy Haulage Ltd was the first haulage company in Northern Ireland to invest in modular equipment. Such capital investment has enabled Mar-Train to be at the forefront of heavy haulage. The company now has a solid customer base within the plant machinery manufacturers and the wind farm industry. The company have successfully delivered hundreds of wind turbines in the past 23 years to locations such as Orkney and surrounding islands, Inner and Outer Hebrides, main land Scotland, England, Wales and Southern Ireland. A lot of these sites have been some of the most arduous sites and very often in very remote locations.

Mar-Train still plays a major part in the transport of plant machinery. The company provides local transportation for CAT and cross channel transportation for JCB, Komatsu and Daewoo. Work for their main customer Terex GB from Dungannon, has seen the company venture to all parts of the continent.

Health and Safety is an important part of the company. Each employee receives an induction and a copy of our health and safety Policy. The company also use an external company to ensure each driver, member of traffic staff, vehicle attendant and mechanic, all hold a CSR certificate. This perseverance has ensured that Mar-Train has an excellent health and safety record.

The continued success of Mar-Train Heavy Haulage Ltd is largely due to the commitment to provide an excellent, unrivalled customer service, and the attention to detail ensures that customers return again and again for all their transportation requirements.

Company Infrastructure

Our head office is a 2 Acre yard outside Lisburn. We have our own vehicle workshop. All vehicles, trailers and equipment are serviced every 6 weeks in accordance with the regulations governing our transport license. We employ two full time mechanics who also run fully equipped vans for call-outs or breakdowns. We have an up to date, efficient fleet of tractor units comprising of 22 tractor units and over 70 trailers.

We also provide a secure storage facility in Portadown, used mainly for storage of machines for our main customer – Terex UK.

2013 seen the creation of Mar-Train Ireland Ltd with and the opening of an Irish Depot in Limerick, Ireland. We are the only company in the Northern Ireland to have both a UK and Irish Haulage Licences.

Operating such a specialist fleet throughout Europe requires a dedicated team of employees. The company currently employs;

6 transport staff, 22 drivers, 4 accounts/payroll staff, 5 vehicle attendants and 2 mechanics.
